Feng Shui as a Way of Life

The original purpose of Feng Shui, centuries ago was to create a sense of safety.  Also in mind was an open view of what is in front of us physically and mentally and what would be considered beyond our physical existence.

In our political climate of today, nothing could be more needed.

It’s important to look at our living spaces with fresh eyes, to see what are the little things that interrupt the flow of energy as we move around the space. [Read more…]

Clutter

The thing I notice the most, as I do Feng Shui consultations, is that most peoples’ biggest faux pas is clutter, clutter, clutter.

I want to say CLUTTER, CLUTTER, CLUTTER. I can’t say this enough.

Clutter keeps our minds busy. When we have a shelf or a wall that has just one or two things that are beautiful on it our minds can relax and take in the beauty.
Cupboards with doors are wonderful solutions in every room. Choosing simple fabrics for couches and bedspreads with print accents also can help.

Here are a couple rule of thumb suggestions on how to let go of things:

  1. See if anything you have around reminds you of something sad.
  2. Ask yourself if you have used the thing or worn it if it is clothing, in the last year. And choose the clothing with colors that make you feel good.
  3. Check if you tend to have lots of little plants instead of one big beautiful one (size being relative to your space).
  4. Throw out anything dead or with dried leaves or twigs. Keep flourishing plants with healthy energy.
  5. Please any pointed, design elements go.
  6. Remove clutter that hinders doors opening and clear, open pathways inside and out.
  7. See yourself creating space for new, fresh energy as you let go of the old.
  8. Sit in different parts of the space and look around you and ask yourself How does it look or make you feel.
  9. If you can’t physically clear out garages or storage areas yourself get someone to help you.

People think they have to hold on to things because of the memories attached to the things. The mind has the memories whether the thing is there or not.

Clear open spaces, whether it is on a wall, shelf, or pathway, are relaxing.

When we are calm, relaxed, feel at home all good things come to us.

Reading the Energy of an Environment

Now some people might notice that I added the possibility of booking Psychic Readings, Tarot, and Palm Readings on my Feng Shui website.

This might seem incongruous at first.  However, I am a reader and when I do a Feng Shui consultation I am reading the energy of an environment.  And when I do a reading I am reading the energy of a person or their specific situation.

Time to Clean up the Garden

With temperatures cooling,  it’s a good time to clean up the garden, plant bulbs for the spring and take care of plants that are troubled.  It’s a good time to move them if you want to or treat for diseases or bugs.  I plant garlic cloves around plants with aphids and other bugs.  One of the main Feng Shui principals is don’t have any dead leaves or plants around.  Always have fresh healthy plants.

Excuses

I have so many excuses why I haven’t written for so many months.  On the whole, let’s put it down to the  Santa Barbara County Fires and Montecito mudslides.  That shocked the hell out of me and everyone else around. Also, I have a different understanding of how these disasters affect us.

With such calamities and what’s going on nationally and worldwide, Feng Shui can at least create more harmony and balance in our environments. I would focus on feeling cozy and protected.
